For sports teams
What happens in the locker room matters. So does what happens on the bus, at team parties, and in the group chat. When degrading comments and humiliation become part of belonging, teammates learn that staying quiet is how you prove your loyalty. Taking the C-50 Pledge means being willing to challenge a teammate or coach when something is wrong—even when that person is popular, powerful, or helping you win. It means refusing hazing, getting help when someone may be in danger, and telling the truth instead of protecting the team’s reputation. Coaches, captains, and veteran players must set that standard. No one should have to choose between their safety and their place on the team.
The C-50 Pledge for Sports Teams
Being a good teammate means speaking up when someone on your team is doing harm—even when he’s the star player.
I pledge to:
Challenge degrading comments, rape jokes, and harassment in the locker room, on the bus, at parties, and in team chats.
Refuse hazing, sexualized initiation, forced drinking, and humiliation. No one should have to be abused to earn a place on this team.
Step in safely and get help when someone may be in danger. I will not leave it to the captain or assume somebody else will act.
Report suspected abuse or sexual violence through appropriate channels, including outside the team when needed. I will not let a coach, teammate, or winning season keep me quiet.
Tell the truth and refuse to cover for someone because we wear the same uniform.
Support anyone who speaks up. I will not question their loyalty, threaten their place on the team, or join in retaliation.
I will care more about someone’s safety than protecting our reputation.
I will hold my teammates—and myself—accountable.
