Take the pledge as an individual

You don’t need to belong to an organization to do something.

You have friends. You’re in group chats. You go to work, family gatherings, and parties. You hear what people say when they think everyone around them agrees.

You can be the person who says, “That’s not okay.” Who checks on someone. Who gets help instead of assuming somebody else will.

Take the C-50 Pledge for yourself. Then bring it into the circles you sit in.

The C-50 Individual Pledge

I pledge to:

  1. Speak up. I will challenge degrading comments, rape jokes, bullying, and harassment. I will not laugh along just to avoid an uncomfortable conversation.

  2. Hold my people accountable. I will not excuse harmful behavior because someone is my friend, family member, coworker, or someone I admire. I can care about someone and still tell them they’re wrong.

  3. Act when someone may be in danger. I will check in, interrupt safely, bring in others, or call for help. I will not assume someone else has it handled.

  4. Take what I see seriously. If I witness suspected assault or abuse, I will get appropriate help and report what I know truthfully. I will not hide evidence, spread intimate images, or help someone cover up harm.

  5. Be someone people can come to. If someone tells me they’ve been harmed, I will listen and take them seriously. I will not blame them, demand details, or pressure them to stay quiet. I will ask what support they want.

  6. Follow through. I will practice these commitments when it’s uncomfortable, when I’m the only person speaking up, and when staying quiet would be easier.

I will hold people accountable for their actions and their language. It stops with me.
